Ceramic figure of an Indian elephant.

Since time immemorial, the elephant has been a highly respected animal in India, due to the great help it has always given to humans. This respect has been reflected, for example, in one of the most well-known and worshipped gods in Hinduism, Ganesha or Ganesh, who has an elephant's head. But within this admiration for elephants, those with white skin, like the one represented in this ceramic figure, hold an even more special place. This is because it is said that Maya, the mother of Buddha, became pregnant by an albino elephant after dreaming that it entered her womb.

As we can observe, this friendly ceramic elephant is dressed in the traditional Hindu style. This ceramic figure has been painstakingly handcrafted, with every last detail taken care of. To give the piece a final touch, the artisans have added some gold details, a decoration that has become the hallmark of the De Rosa firm.
